12 new scenarios supported for baseball and softball packed file sharing

March 20, 2012   by Mike Fratto

You've been able to share baseball and softball packed files in our Network for three weeks and there have been hundreds of successful imports.

We're thrilled that you have quickly adopted this practice, and hopefully you've already been benefitting from sharing packed files for basketball, ice hockeysoccer and field hockey

Making changes

We originally tested with a collection of over 500 packed files, but as you know with baseball and softball, there's pretty much an endless amount of scenarios that could happen on any given play.

Once you started uploading many baseball and softball packed files, we were able to identify several situations and statistics that weren't being correctly imported. You've noticed this too, contacted us about it and sent us your packed file with that unique play.

That has been invaluable because we've been able to add those packed files to our test group and make adjustments so they are handled correctly on import.

We've got fixes for 12 more stats and situations upcoming with this week's release, which relate to:

  • Scoresheet entered statistics
  • Putouts on 4-3 plays
  • Recognition of pitcher and batter handedness
  • More accurate calculation of team fielding statistics
  • Correct generation of the date
  • Proper assignment of an assist to a fielder on a play where the error was on the first baseman
  • Better handling of plays with errors
  • Runners advancing on a wild pitch
  • Runners advancing on a fielding error
  • Runners advancing two bases by stealing the first base and advancing the second on an error
  • Plays when runners at 2nd or 3rd don't advance
  • Proper handling of catcher's interference and batter's interference

We're watching if anything else comes up, and please continue to let us know if you see a play that is imported wrong.

What's next?

Football is the only sport left that we need to support packed file sharing for. When you load your stats to our Network, we're able to create cool features to help you out like automatically submitting your stats to the NCAA.

Not only that, as you share more and more stats in our Network, we'll be able to roll out additional features.

What do you think? Has packed file sharing made your life easier?
