Moving forward with enhanced bios

November 13, 2012   by Greg Blake

Back in January, I wrote a blog post about our bio pages releasing a new look, and at the NCAA Convention we gave a glimpse of what it would look like. We got lots of positive feedback, along with lots of chatter of how our users would expect the new look to operate within their own site. With all of that we have made great strides since then, many which are behind the scenes, but strides which are putting us in a great position for the future.

I am happy to announce that in the middle of our Fall season we were able to start rolling sites out with enhanced bios for Fall rosters!

How we started putting enhanced bios on sites was not the process we had in mind back in January though. It may look like a small change...just put these stats on this bio page and we are done! Unfortunately, it's not that easy. There are really three main points here of why things have not moved along as quickly as we initially expected:

It is more than just embedding stats on bio pages

Our ultimate goal is to give our users a single way to enter a roster that would work not only for your website, but also allow you to share rosters and stats with Stat Crew. This means creating an editor that gives you all the flexibility you expect on the website AND supporting the limitations of the Stat Crew roster formats.

Combine all tools of both editors

Our website bios editor and stats roster editor each had helpful features  roster aging, importing CSV, importing and exporting Stat Crew roster files and flagging players as active or inactive  and we want to combine all of these tools. This time next year, you'll have been able to age your roster from last year, update your website, and send a Stat Crew roster file to an opponent.

New design for stat reports

We don't want to be shortsighted here and are currently working on a face lift for all of our stat reports.

With all that being said, we do have our first version released and ready to go for you to take full advantage of:

Player highlight stats for each sport will now show in the head of the bio while three additional stat specific tabs are added after the standard bio tab.

To be one of the early adopters, all you need to do is email our support team and let them know you would like to get set up with enhanced bios. Once they have set up your site to allow enhanced bios, they will send step-by-step instructions for you to follow to get these added for your bios.

We have heard nothing but positive reviews since we have started to roll these enhanced bios out, so hopefully everyone using our enhanced stats takes full advantage of this opportunity!
