New live conference scoreboard integrates enhanced stats

March 6, 2012   by Greg Blake

With our new live scoreboard, conferences can now give their fans a truly interactive experience when looking at scores and stats! In the image below, you can see how multiple events from multiple sports are organized into a unique conference scoreboard. You can see another example live on the GLIAC's scoreboard page.

The key to this new scoreboard is that it is interactive. From this scoreboard, a user is able to:

  • click a sport name to go to that sport schedule
  • click a team name to go to that team's enhanced stats page
  • click a player's name to go direclty to that player's enhanced stats page.

Every event's score and stats will be updated in real time while the stat files are being pushed to the PrestoSports Network. A key element when designing this scoreboard was to make sure it wasn't too busy. With that in mind, while using the same mini-boxscore included in releases, we are hiding the "Team Statistics" section by default. By clicking on that heading though, it will expand to show to your fans.

We also realize conference sites have different body widths, so through our user-friendly Options, a site can be set up with two or three boxes in each row.

And since it is not flash-based, your fans will be able to follow scores on their iPad and iPhones.

The live conference scoreboard has already created lots of buzz, and once it is fully released, I expect to see conferences marketing it as their live scoreboard page and getting fans to click there immediately. When you look around at other conference sites, there is no interactive scoreboard option like this available where all the scores and stats fit perfectly in the body of a site. During site designs, we always stress the importance of making sure users can easily navigate around your site, and this fits right within those standards.

This scoreboard would be an ideal place to get a snapshot of all conference games from a particular day or weekend. Since we soft launched it last week, we have already started making enhancements on it, such as automatic refreshing of games in progress and an option to hide or show the extended stats for each event.

We'll be contacting conferences over the next few weeks to discuss the best way to implement the new scoreboard on each site.
