It's time to pimp your splash page

March 27, 2012   by Travis Peters

Last month we gave you a sneak peak of our new splash page, and the time to release the revamped look is here! Not only will you see a cleaner look on the front end of your website, but the process of setting up your splash page has been simplified.

New Content Type

The idea behind overhauling our splash pages was to make things easier on the user. The best way to do that was to create a new content type called "splash." The "splash" content type gives you control over every element of your splash page, including:

  1. Where you want to feature your splash page.
  2. The date you want your splash page to go live.
  3. The date you'd like it to expire.
  4. The chance to customize as many links as you see fit for your splash.

Graphics and videos are both supported by our new splash editor, and if both are selected, your video will play over your graphic!

Additionally, by setting a live date for the future, you will be able to preview the look of your splash page before it goes live.

I've got the content type, but now what?

Once your new "splash" content type has been created, you are going to feature this into a headlines called "splash-headlines." The "splash-headlines" is located in your landing section and will be setup by our support staff. It is restricted to only allow "splash" and will be seen when fans visit your /landing/index.

The new splash editor also makes it easy to get a splash page live on a sports page. You'll simply want to add a headlines in the sport section of your choice (bsb, sball, mlax, etc.), name it "splash-headlines" and set the restrictions to only allow "Splash."

Customizing the look of your splash page

One feature of the new splash page that is generating a lot of buzz is the faded look of the page as it lays over your website. The colors of your links, background color and background opacity (how much it is faded) are all customizable through your standard options. Three new options were created to make the customization of your splash page more manageable:

  1. Splash: background color.
  2. Splash: link color.
  3. Splash: background opacity.

These will default to a black background, white font and 75 percent opacity, but by adding in these options, you'll be able to add the HEX number of your school colors to make the splash page more true to your institution.

Enough with the chitter chatter, I'm ready to use the new splash editor

In the coming days, you'll be receiving an email from our Support team asking you to reply if you'd like us to set you up with the new splash editor. We'll add a few lines of code, clean up your old splash page (time to say goodbye to the graphics headline) and set up your new headlines in the landing section. Once we've completed the task, we'll give you more instructions on how to get your splash page up and running.
