Innovative layouts being used more often

May 12, 2011   by Greg Blake

Last month I blogged about our new scoreboard layouts, and since then it has been great to see a number of clients ask their project managers about taking advantage of those. With the adoption of the scoreboard layouts, we have also seen an increase in clients taking advantage of several other new layouts during new site launches and redesigns.

My personal favorite is the accordion, which we have been implementing on sites as an alternative to a tabbed container. The accordion serves a similar purpose as tabs, but gives a fresh new functionality for fans. As seen in the image to the right, the OCAA did a great job using the accordion to make their new site much more compact while still being able to include all the content they wanted to have on their site.

Another new layout that more sites are using are what we call our sponsor slider. We have seen clients take advantge of this in multiple ways so far. The Citadel recently launched a new site and has all its sponsor logos continuously sliding right-to-left across the bottom of the page, so all their sponsors are always prominently present. Another effective implentation of the sponsor slider is the way Le Moyne is using its graphical expertise to create site-wide graphics on their redesigned site that slide through in order to promote important items.

Please keep in mind that these new features may not work with all current site designs, and are ideal for redesigns and new clients. We encourage all clients to ask their project managers about our latest layouts during the redesign process.

As always, we are thankful for your feedback. Keep the new ideas rolling in and keep your eyes open for new layouts being launched on sites this summer!
