Social Media Updates

March 17, 2016   by Bryan Plocker

We are making two necessary improvements that will allow sites to keep up with recent and upcoming system changes from Twitter and Instagram. First, with our most recent release, the Social media setup for your site will no longer be located in Game day. It will now be accessible through the "Account" tab. This is where you currently set up your social media platforms for use with the Game day share tool for your scores, game recaps, etc.

Additionally, anyone using our Social Stream content type may need to make some account adjustments in order to continue supporting these features moving forward. The improvements will require you to add a minimum of one site account for both Twitter and Instagram to the Social media area of the site. These changes will result in better reliability and performance consistency across your social media platforms.

Instagram:

Starting with our next release, all sites must have an Instagram account added in the Social media area in order to continue showing Instagram pictures through the Social Stream content type. This requirement stems from a change in the way that Instagram retrieves pictures for their accounts. With this new workflow, you will be able to display multiple Instagram accounts on your site instead of just the single account that is allowed now! The account added to your Social media page does not need to match with the account(s) used in your Social Stream pages - there only needs to be an Instagram account added to allow for proper display.

There will be a two-week window for you to update your Social media pages with an Instagram account. After that time, sites that still do not have an Instagram account added to their Social media will no longer display photos within Social Stream pages.

Twitter:

At least one Twitter account will also need to be added to the Social media page in order for social-stream pages to show up to date Twitter feed(s). You can check to see if your page is working properly by going to the edit content page for your Social Stream account. If you already have a Twitter feed added to your Social Stream, you will see a message like this if there is not a Twitter account added to Social media for your site.

If you do not have a Twitter feed added to the Social Stream, when you click "connect account", a message will appear that will prompt you to take action and redirect you to the Social media page.

As always, please contact support should you run into any issues with your social media accounts or social-stream pages.
