Contributions gets a boost

August 19, 2014   by Bryan Plocker

Our contributions feature started as an easy way to get simple releases onto a site that features many teams, such as a D3 or conference site. This summer we worked on incorporating some new features and a refined workflow and we're ready to roll out the changes!

What are contributions?

Contributions allow any PrestoSports user to share content with another website. This content is added and managed through Game day. A site can control what season and sport it accepts contributions for, who can contribute to their site, and where the information is displayed. Contributions have been used in the past by the host of D3 sports sites, but the feature was recently enhanced to make it available for all PrestoSports-hosted conference sites.

The accepting site can receive contributions from all schools it has access to in the PrestoSports Network, including those that are not PrestoSports website clients. Contributing sites have total control over what information they share and can make contributions for all sports that they sponsor in the conference.

Saving time

Once you submit a contribution, both the conference and member school can go back and make edits as needed. This shared process allows the conference to display a higher volume of information by streamlining releases onto their site as schools submit them instead of needing to create them from scratch.

The contributions are shown in a predetermined location chosen during the initial setup process. For example, each sport can have its own designated contributions page or there can be a page that displays all releases regardless of their topic. For PrestoSport clients, the contributions you submit will not effect anything on your own site. They will only be made live on the sites that are accepting contributions.

Improvements

If you are already using contributions, you will notice some significant improvements in the coming weeks. With the upcoming release, you will have the ability to add a thumbnail to your contribution prior to submitting it. You will soon be able to publish your releases as contributions without having to copy and paste the story into a completely new file.

You can also share ideas on our feedback forum after you have had a chance to use the feature. As always, we look forward to hearing your input!

Getting Started

Conferences: please contact our support team and request that contributions be enabled on your site. This is a quick process and we will provide you with more detailed steps and instructions on how to specifically get started on your site after completing the initial setup.

Member schools: contact your conference representative if you are interested in making contributions to your conference site. The conference will need to request access as outlined above to implement the feature. We have information and instructions available in our Help Center and will be updating those pages as new features continue to be released.
