End of summer stats update

August 7, 2014   by Mike Fratto

In our last stats update after CoSIDA, we laid out our goals for the summer and fall. Now that fall is upon us, I want to update everyone on the progress of those things and the general state of all-things stats.

Don't miss out - the future of statistics is here

Now in year three, our stats entry for soccer and field hockey is fully tested and being used by your colleagues. In addition to soccer and field hockey, we have volleyball entering year two and football coming off a soft-launch year. Everything is in place, from ease of use to complete packed file compatibility with Stat Crew Legacy.

"With all the changes in technology and the uncertainty of where Stat Crew was headed, we decided to 'take the plunge' and use PrestoSports Stats Entry for all of our sports (soccer, field hockey, volleyball, basketball and lacrosse - nearly 100 games total) during the 2013-14 academic year and had very few issues," said Corey McCarthy, Sports Information Director at St. Joseph's College of Maine. "The level of support is outstanding and the price (free) is difficult to ignore. I highly recommend giving PrestoSports Stats Entry a try!"

To make your transition as smooth as possible, we included the keystrokes you're used to using. But we also wanted to build flexibility into it so that you can work however you are most comfortable. Since our software works on any device that has a browser, you don't have to be tied to an old stats computer any more.

"Macs rule, PCs drool. The introduction of PrestoSports' stats entry platform meant a welcome return to the Mac as my primary computing tool," said Ed Habershaw, Sports Information Director at Salve Regina University. "Even old-school stat keepers can use similar letter codes they’ve grown accustomed with Stat Crew."

Like everything we do here at PrestoSports, our stats entry was built with mobile in mind and to set you up best for the future. So naturally tablets are included in the devices we support.

“I really enjoy and have benefitted from the live scoring entry from PrestoSports, specifically for soccer," said Trey Meadows, Sports Information Director at North Central University. "We just use an iPad with a Verizon data package and with a few minutes of charging between games, we provide full stats service for two full games. This was a huge breakthrough for us.”

If you need to be at the football game or somewhere else, there's no need to worry. The same team of designers who produce your cutting-edge websites built a modern, intuitive interface for stats entry so that your students and graduate assistants can pick it up with ease.

“Soccer is pretty good — I had an intern who knew nothing about stat input and was doing it all on his own by mid-season,” said Mike Nosek, Sports Information Director at Southern Vermont College.

We hope you will be willing to give our software a try this fall. If you have a PrestoSports account and add your schedule to our Network, you are already set up to use it. All you have to do is launch the app and get started!
