What's ahead in 2014

January 15, 2014   by Serge Knystautas

This year is shaping up to be a really exciting one for us at PrestoSports, so rather than a recap of the previous year like we usually do, we want to look ahead. Granted, we did have a lot of great achievements in 2013, including being the first college sports web provider with fully responsive designs, rolling out big features like customizing events in the PrestoSports Network and enhanced forms, and finishing up scoresheet and in-game stats entry for head-to-head sports.

Let's look ahead to a few of the big changes we have planned for 2014.

Broadcast video streaming

Yes, we are bringing live event video broadcasting to PrestoSports! This will be fully integrated with your website, and it'll be easy in Game day to flag the events that you will broadcast using our platform. Your live video broadcasts will fit beautifully into your website, and we'll combine your live video with our live stats service so you can overlay score and other information on the video. This is a fundamental improvement over other live video solutions that wrap live stats around the video, so as soon as you watch full screen or watch this on an iPhone, you lose all live stats.

We are currently piloting this with a few winter sport games on our own. We're looking for early adopters who want to beta test video streaming in the spring for both events and coaches shows. Please email me if you're interested in being a beta tester.

Responsive, easier to use admin system

While our admin system is widely recognized as the most powerful one in college sports, we can't lose sight of keeping it easy to use. Game day was a big part of that, but it's already five years old. We want to redesign Game day and other features that are hard to use. This includes in a new photo editor to rival Photoshop, upgrading the article rich editor and more.

Not only are we going to make it easier to use, we're going to make it fully responsive so you can use it on your tablet or smartphone. The adaptive design we've used in the past just doesn't cut it as we know you want to do more and more on the go. So rather than continue to use the adaptive design, we're going to apply our expertise in responsive design to our admin system.

Finally, we'll be giving it a cosmetic upgrade. The 2002 look will be replaced with a modern, professional one.

This is all a lot of work and will be rolled out throughout the year. If you'd like to help, we'd love to have you participate in this redesign. We blogged about helping us with the redesign in the fall and 56 people signed up to give us feedback. We asked that group how they use our system and if new features should go in the Game day or the Website tab or somewhere else, and we've been making changes based on their feedback.

Career stats, more stat reports and alerts

For the past several years, we've spent more time working on helping you enter statistics with stats entry and packed file compatibility than we have on reports. Now that there are hundreds of thousands of box scores in the PrestoSports Network (343,000 at last count), it's time to give you visibility into all of that data. We've been working towards career stats and can see the finish line, which once released will open the door to game highs and alerts so you can track when something exciting is happening with your teams and players.

Don't worry, stats entry is still a major focus. We've got tennis and one other sport planned for this year, as well as some other important improvements coming later in the year.

Stayed tuned for more

We'll have more announcements closer to the summer as we continue to be the most innovative sports website provider. Be sure to continue to suggest your ideas to develop.prestosports.com as that's been invaluable feedback forum for us.
