Ten reasons SIDs need to get Google Glass
May 14, 2013 by Mike DonlinWe're hearing plenty in the mainstream and tech media about Google Glass, wearable computing soon to be available for early adopters and celebrities. As a proud former Sports Information Director and one that gets to work with SIDs every day, I think they belong among those that deserve the product first.
Ten Reasons every Sports Information Director should
get Google Glass
- I’m sure there is at least $1,500 leftover in that vast
budget of yours. Good place to use those funds so you don’t
lose them.
- Using Google Glass to look up sports trivia, you can freak even
more people out with all those crazy stats running around in your
mind.
- It’d make an incredible documentary. Leave the Google
Glass on all week. Actually log those tasks and hours that
you’re working.
- You’ve got to be where the fans, prospective
student-athletes, parents and alumni are. If you are using them,
you’ll have a better idea how to get your message to this
vital early adopter audience at your school.
- Your coaches are going to want them. Someone needs to show them
how to use it.
- With CoSIDA
joining the NACDA convention, you’re going to need a way to
fashionably stand out from the athletics administration crowd in
Orlando.
- Multi-tasking part 1 – how else are you going to be able
to keep stats and get action shots?
- Multi-tasking part 2 – how else are you going to be able
to keep stats and get video highlights?
- This way you can get scores from around the conference and
updated standings on the bus without putting down that postgame
pizza slice.
- PrestoSports is going to come up with ways to make your job easier via Google Glass. I’m sure of it. Just give us some time.
Got more reasons? Real or tongue in cheek, let's hear them.
