Highlight players and coaches with their own site

No matter what league, division, or conference you look at, there are always those select players and coaches who stand out. Whether it is for their work in the classroom, community or playing field, those individuals have a chance to be highlighted in a manner that lets every fan know what they accomplished and also give them the opportunity to capture more fans.

Recently I was the project manager for the Andrew Nicholson site, which was put together by St. Bonaventure Athletics to effectively market one of the top men's basketball players in the nation.

We designed it to have a compact and edgy look, and to make sure that pages were straight to the point. There was no need to have long pages of content or a bunch of subpages. A site like this should let a fan find the most recent and important information about the individual as quickly as possible.

On a personal level, I hope to see more projects like this cycle through the site launch process, whether it is for players, coaches or even teams. With all the social media widgets that can be included to provide real-time information, along with other features like enhanced statistics, video, photos, and RSS, these sites could be set up where it doesn't take much effort to manage.

Though your main athletic site generates lots of traffic and good content, I really think microsites like this could be the next "in" thing when talking about what will garner the most fan engagement.
