See every change to your stats

June 21, 2011   by Serge Knystautas

In the past, statistics were trapped on a single computer.  You set aside that laptop for the entire season, and with any luck, your laptop would make it to the end with a complete collection of stats.

Of course, working with opponents, conferences, the NCAA and media outlets led to you sending your stat files around to an ever-growing email list.  And sometimes you or your opponent would have to make changes to those stats, leading to another round of emails.

Sooner or later you're sitting in front of your computer with a revised box score in your inbox, and you wonder what exactly is going to happen to my stats when I import that revised box score?

This is exactly what computers are good at.

This month we're unveiling a powerful new way to track and view all the changes to your statistics.  We built this on top of our network of stats and email alerts and is an automatic benefit to everyone in the PrestoSports Network.

As of July 1st, whenever anyone uploads a box score, we'll save a copy of it.  You can click [view] next to a statistics change to see the box score at that point in time.  This means you don't need to print out box scores and keep them on your laptop because they are secure and transparent in our admin system. Your stats are safe from natural disasters, the rapture or a zombie apocalypse.

Next, we're letting you see what changed with every version.

While viewing the box score, you can choose to highlight the changes from the previous version, or we'll let you quickly jump back to other versions of this box score.

Maybe your opponent forgot to mention one of the changes in the box score, or your student assistant made a typo and a change appeared by accident. It will also allow the conference office to see changes as well, providing some good oversight on new SIDs learning the ropes of challenging scoring rules. This will take the human error out of making stats changes.

So whether the winning pitcher changed, player participation, earned runs, hit vs. error, football defensive stats, or anything else, it will all be in the admin system for you to see quickly and easily.
