Stat Crew plans to replace DOS version

May 5, 2011   by Robb Modica

Today, Stat Crew made a major announcement about their plans to replace the DOS versions of its software.  We wanted to explain how this impacts our users and divide their announcement into two categories... stat sharing and stat entry.

Stat Entry

Stat Crew has outsourced the redevelopment of their stat entry software to a company called 10 Foot Wave.  Here are some of the key points they made in today's announcement.

  • They will only have soccer and basketball ready for 2011-2012.
  • Other sports will continue to be available as DOS programs.
  • An optional software upgrade just became a mandatory subscription fee. For a school that has five sports that has been happy with the old version they bought, they would have to budget $1,000 per year to move to the new software.
  • HTML reports, XML, packed file, and roster file formats will remain the same.
  • There is no point-and-click interface, only keystroke.
  • There are no plans to support the iPad, Droid, or other mobile devices.

Stat Sharing

They announced a new hosting service called StatCloud, which is effectively a paid version of the PrestoSports Network.  Stat Crew will charge $75 per year per sport to use this sharing service.  This will allow you to do the same thing that you can do with PrestoSports including:

  • Stat game file exchange (We have supported XML file sharing for two years and in 2011-2012 will also support packed files).
  • Roster sharing
  • Centralized schedules

Over the next several weeks, we will be reaching out to all conference offices and key media organizations including D3Sports and Lax Magazine so that they can plan on continuing to use the PrestoSports Network for these services to free.
